The SOCIB Research Vessel R/V is a coastal catamaran specially built to study the Mediterranean Sea. Its features make it ideal for research work both in open sea and along the coast, and to support research projects within the context of national and international oceanographic missions, as well as training practices. With a length of 24 meters, it is equipped for conducting multidisciplinary research.
Among the oceanographic campaigns carried out on the R/V SOCIB are the SOCIB ICTS’s own campaigns, known as ‘CANALES’, conducted seasonally and framed within the permanent observation program of the Mallorca and Ibiza Channels. These campaigns aim to advance knowledge of the state and variability of the Balearic Sea and its main biodiversity hotspots.

Services and rates of the SOCIB R/V
Rates applicable to competitive research projects and Ship Time Requests
(costs updated on July 1, 2023)
These rates have been established in line with the cost estimation criteria for operating vessels of the Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructure (ICTS) Spanish Oceanographic Fleet (FLOTA), according to criteria discussed at the national level in the meetings of the “Costs” Working Group of FLOTPOL. Likewise, these criteria coincide, at an international level, with those applied in different European countries after their analysis within the European Research Vessels Operators Group (ERVO).
Daily prices1 for public bodies:
1Prices adjusted to the detailed rate and with the crew indicated in each case, not including possible costs derived from access to ports. The start and end of each campaign will have Palma (Mallorca) as the base port. Any modification to these conditions will be subject to a separate budget.
